Those Things I Love About Cookie

Cookie has been home 4 months. It's been the most interesting and peculiar time to say the least.

Cookie is the first horse I've ever owned on my own and I have learned so much about her and horses in general.

The things I love about her are:

Her facial expressions. I love how she communicates with her eyes, ears, nose and mouth. She can carry on a full conversation in less than 15 minutes with just her expressions. I may not always follow along completely, but most of the time I get the jest of it. lol

Her color. She's a black and white paint, with the edges of her spots being semi-roan or "blurry". Her original name was Oreo because the white goes all the way around her middle. Fitting name, but I changed it to Cookie because she is a smart cookie and I liked it better.

Her smell. Every horse has their own smell. Some smell similar and yet different. I have tried to find a way to put into words how she smells, but I haven't been able to.

Her movements. The way she walks in a zig zag to her hay or water. The way she throws up her head and takes off to the front of her paddock to see what she hears. I laugh every time she tosses her head as if to say to me, "Hurry up already"! I love the way she kicks up her heels when she's feeling good, running around playing. The way she sleeps. If she would lay & sleep for longer than 10 - 15 minutes, I'd just sit and watch her sleep. It's really funny to watch her when she's in REM sleep. Her tail begins to switch around, sometimes she nickers and sometimes she whinnies.

The way she nickers when I come out to see her. It's so heartwarming to hear it and it's a special treat when she trots up to me. I know it's mostly to see if I've brought her a treat or something to eat, but it still makes me feel special.

These are just some of the many things I love about Cookie. She's just a mess. I'll always know how blessed I am when I see her and spend time with her. She's taught me more about me than I could ever learn elsewhere.
