This is a story of my 3 year old horse named Jester. I have had him for almost a year now and he is my baby boy. When I first met Jester he was 2 years old and very underweight. He had been through so much in such a short amount of time. He was rescued from Tennessee last year.
When the rescuers brought him to a vet, the vet said Jester may not make the trip down to Florida. Thankfully however he did make the journey down here safe and sound. The women who had him had heard that I was looking for a horse that I could train myself. She also knew that I would love to have a rescue horse so that's when I got the phone call to go look at him.
I went over to the women’s house to go see this 2 year old horse. And when I saw him it was love at first site. I asked her to give me some time to pull the money together so I could adopt him. About a week after I had seen him, I got another phone call from this same lady saying that he was ready to go and since I had pulled the money together, I went down to go pick up my new horse.
When I got there Ihad the money in hand to make a payment on him. To my surprise she said, "No, keep the money. He is yours for free as long as you keep him forever and love him always." I was so happy that I hugged her and said thank you at least 1,000 times. I then ran over to Jester and hugged him. I then led him onto the trailer and we went home. After I got him to my house, I gave him a bath and gave him food. It took me about 6 months to get his weight up but I did it.
I started weight training him with a saddle so that one day he could be ridden. He took to that very very well. After I started doing that I talked to both a vet and a trainer. I asked them when I could break him to ride. They said I could start now but only do it 15 minute intervals every few days. I tried doing what they said I should do and to my amazement, he took to it very well. He accepted me as his rider; he only threw me twice but other than that he is an amazing horse. We still have a long way to go in our journey together and I don’t ever plan on giving him up or selling him. He is my pride and joy and he always will be.
