One of the charities my husband Peter and I support is Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Oregon. I fully believe in the healing power of horses, and the results owners Kim and Troy Meeder have produced speak for themselves. They pair up rescued horses with rescued children which equals recovery for all involved.
For Christmas, Peter bought me a beautiful bracelet from Crystal Peaks' online store, pictured above. Some time before, I had mentioned in passing that my boss's wife, whom I adore, had two Pandora bracelets. Peter asked me if I wanted to own at least one. I said no thanks, but then I saw these charms on the bracelet at the Crystal Peaks store. They not only told the story of so many of the kids they had reached, they told my story too. It was a ready-made "Pandora" for me.
When I put my beautiful bracelet on Christmas morning, I explained it to my daughter, who for whatever reason hasn't inherited any of my horse addiction.
"The first charm shows a broken heart, which everyone suffers at one point in their lives." At the age of fifty mine has suffered more than a few breaks.
"The second charm shows a storm." I've weathered hundreds of storms and came out the other side a little worn out.
"Then you pair up with a horse and he shows you such unconditional love, that you're able to put your past in the past in order to fully enjoy your present with him." That has been my story more times than I can tell.
"And the fourth charm is faith. You can't move on from hurts without faith in a higher power to somehow turn bad into good." Amen.
"The fifth and sixth charms speak for themselves: the end result can be sunny skies and a healed heart." Thankfully that's where we end up if we don't give up. We can take full advantage of equine therapy, structured or unstructured.
Wishing everyone Happy Holidays and an amazing 2015.
