While having my much needed garage sale one year, I was approached by a tall, slender lady. She had the kind of smile that made you want to get to know her. She was admiring my horse, he is 1/2 American Cream Draft horse and very handsome. We got to chatting and she told me she and her husband owned a little ranch in Bend Oregon. She was visiting her sister up the road.
The name of her place was Crystal Peaks and was built by her husband and herself basically on a rock pile. They started rescuing horses and then one day quite by accident, they were witness to the healing power between an abused child and an abused horse. They seem to draw strength and a desire to continue from each other. Almost as if they can sense they are alike. Long story short, they now have a place to meet thanks to Kim Meeder and her husband and alot of support from the community for hay and such.
Kim wrote a book called "Hope Rising". I warn you it is one of those books I had to put down and cry a few times but it was worth it. Its a really neat story about some really special kids and horses. The abuse they suffered was incredible and the love they shared was the kind of stuff AT & T commercials are made of. Im sure this book will bring a tear to your eye. I even went and visited her ranch. It isnt huge but definately has alot to offer to both child and horse.
Its good to know there are people like Kim around. She is one of those people I am proud to have met.
