Robo Sling Excites

Some injuries are hard for certain animals to recover from. Animals like horses, which are full of energy and pride, can have a harder time recuperating. Horses, in particular, become their own enemy while recovering from a serious injury, as they keep trying to move about and end up hurting themselves even more in the process.

That is why a new robotic sling has been designed that will assist horses in recovering from their leg injuries. This new invention, a robo sling, is exciting a number of people, as their horses will be able to heal properly with its help.

ARMS to Help Horses

The machine is dubbed the Animal Rehabilitation Management System, or ARMS, and consists of a lift to which multiple slings are attached. These slings go around the horse's waist and legs to provide added support to stand or walk about. ARMS was invented by RMD Engineering, an engineering company that has an extensive and impressive portfolio.

Preventing Further Injury

The concept behind ARMS is simple. It will allow the injured horse to stand and move with more rigidity by adding the support and stability that is needed. The machine can be used differently for different horses by being programmed according to the individual horse’s needs.

Apart from being a supporting element for the horses’ front or back legs, ARMS also has the ability to detect sudden movements. If the horse in question stumbles and is about to fall down, ARMS will catch it and prevent further injury. This is what makes this machine very exciting, as a robo sling that can help horses in this fashion will surely aid in their speedy recovery.

Gradual, but Effective

The sling is not an instant solution to a leg injury or a musculoskeletal issue in a horse. Instead, it is something that allows a horse to stay safe from further injuries. Two of the main reasons horses don’t recover soon after they get hurt are reinjury and laminitis.

ARMS is designed to help horses recover from acute injuries over a period of time. The machine gradually allows the horses to regain their strength and composure as their muscles or bones heal. During the recovery period, the settings on the machine can be altered, hence ensuring that the horse slowly gets back on its own feet. By slowly reducing the amount of help ARMS provides to the horse, a very effective recovery can be achieved.

By far the most concerning aspect of using the machine is that it can make it harder for a horse to breathe. However, the fact that it is not going to be a long-term solution, but rather a quicker way for the horse to recover, alleviates some of that concern. The makers of ARMS are working on making it better, and are now looking for donations and funding for the research to correct all such issues with the robo sling. We hope that ARMS can be brought to the market soon, as it is an exciting idea in equine injury recovery.
