Penny’s Continued Life After Rescue

For those of you who made the choice to follow Penny on Facebook, this will come as no surprise, but she is still doing remarkably well!

Penny now has more strength and stamina; she is staying in shape thanks to a variety of small riders, being lunged and occasional turnout with some of my herd that adores her, their pasture is made up of hills and she enjoys being turned out with a 5-year-old fellow rescue horse who keeps her moving, Micah.

Penny has brought joy to many and when you hear her greet you it is one of the most satisfying moments of the day! She loves talking no matter what is going on around her and she tends to talk, especially if she thinks it will get her more food.  She also enjoys her time being groomed or out grazing and stretching her legs!

Penny does not eat forage well as her teeth are not in the best condition from many things and she has quite a few missing. This means she drops enough of it to be a concern, so she mainly lives between a small paddock and stall where she receives many small meals throughout the day, plus alfalfa pellets that are soaked as her source of forage, which she enjoys! Penny is still eating Triple Crown Senior as her main source of food, but she is also on a fattening rice bran supplement to maintain her healthy weight. The natural protein in the alfalfa helps her build and maintain muscle without getting hot.

Penny now also has front shoes so she moves better, while also on a supplement for her arthritis, which has made a drastic difference, along with her successful diet.
