As someone who believes so strongly in education, I believe that it is more than a necessity for any and all animal owners to be involved in a continual educational experience. One of the greatest aspects about nature and science is that it is constantly evolving. New methods form, and we must take the opportunity to learn. It is our duty and responsibility as caretakers for these wonderful animals to provide for them with the most proper and up-to-date protocols.
So, here I am, a newly graduated student venturing out into the new world with big ideas and an ambitious view on life. My personal goal is to be a better person today than I was yesterday. I know that that there is always room for improvement, not just for me, but for everyone. My not-so-personal goal is to help all animal lovers, especially those horse crazy guys and gals, become better caretakers.
Throughout my personal life, my student life, and my working life, I have met so many "animal people" who like to inform me they prefer working with animals more than people. As a fellow animal lover, I completely understand. Animals don't talk back. Animals tend to be more loyal. And animals' bodily functions aren't nearly as gross as humans' (I learned that from my veterinary experience pretty quickly). However, I can't help but think that in order to be an animal person, you have to be a people person to at least some extent in today's world. And what better way to practice our people skills than to offer our knowledge and extend our experience while learning in return?
That is my goal with this blog. I am personally taking an opportunity to reach out to the horse industry. I want to spread knowledge as well as learn from others. Please, as a favor to your horse, take the opportunity and time to learn something. Learn about riding. Learn about proper vaccination and parasite control protocol. Learn about responsible breeding. Learn about diseases, how to prevent them and how to treat them. Learn about conformation and what to look for when purchasing your next loyal partner. You are never too old and never too experienced.
You're already taking a step in the right direction by simply looking at posts on OfHorse. Now, take what you're learning and share it with others, even if you share it with someone who is not interested in horses, animals, nature, or agriculture. Much of society lacks in agricultural knowledge, and in order to preserve it, we must take action. We must share our love with others and teach them about how it works. I challenge each and every one of you to start today. Learn something. Share something. Our animals will appreciate it.
Follow me and I will post more educational and hopefully, inspiring posts. You can also see some more of what I am writing at thejollypony.wordpress.com. Enjoy your summer and go ride a horse!
