Hunks and Horses Is Back

Helping other people out through hard work and devotion is an endeavor not many people can undertake. However, there are many charities in the world that are geared to help as much as they can. Some raise money through awareness campaigns while others do it by selling a product or a service in the name of charity.

Hunks and Horses is one such endeavor. This is a calendar launched by Kim Smith in 2013, aimed to help men dealing with testicular cancer and horses in need. While these two target causes may seem very different from each other, Kim has a deep connection and history related to each of them.

The Hunks and Horses calendar proved to be hugely popular last year, so it is back this year with another issue. More than 13,000 pounds have been made from the 2015 edition; an amount which has been divided between the two charities supported by the calendar.

Helping People with Cancer

The reason Kim wanted to donate money to the Testicular Cancer Research UK was because of her fiancé Aaron, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2009. This sparked a desire in Kim’s heart to help people with this problem, and that is why the sales from the calendar go partly to this charity.

Aaron is completely fine now and is back in the new issue of Hunks and Horses, among other men riding horses while not wearing much clothing.

Helping to Improve Equine Life

The second inspiration for Kim that led to starting this calendar was her affiliation with Melody, a horse that was born at the Norfolk Rehoming Centre after Melody's mother was brought there in very bad condition. Her mother passed away shortly after giving birth to Melody.

Kim became Melody’s guardian in 2012, and turned her into a riding horse. Now, thanks to Kim, Melody has found a loving home where she is kept as a ridden horse. She is now five years of age, and is healthy as can be.

This connection with Melody made Kim want to raise money for the good of the welfare of horses. Hence, Hunks and Horses was born which donates handsome amounts of money to the World Horse Welfare organization.

A Creative Way to Raise Money

There are many ways to raise money when it comes to charities, but the way this calendar does it is quite unique. It features men, who are nearly naked, riding horses or posing with them. While this may seem a little weird to some people, the fact that last year’s issue sold hundreds of copies within only a few weeks of its release shows that this is a proven and effective way to raise money.

Hunks and Horses is a great initiative born out of one individual’s personal affection for two very important causes in her life. That personal affection has now matured to a much more social level, and Kim’s calendar is back to raise more money and to help on an even greater level.
